There I sat in my office in downtown Portland, staring
at the ticker symbols running across my screen. I’ve heard that
periodically, with a little luck and a little skill, a person could
make a fortune trading stocks.
Day one
The phone rang. “Buy 45 shares of Altria Group and get as much
Laidlaw International as you can”. I immediately placed the order
for the stock, even though the person on the other end of the phone
was a stranger (I had a gut feeling something good was going to
happen)
Day two
When I came in this morning, I had a note on my desk that read,
“Buy as much Shell Transport PLS and 26 shares of Bearing Point
Inc.”. I also got great news from yesterday. I was up 9 points from
yesterdays stocks. Could this stranger know what he’s
doing?
Day three
When I came in this morning, I had a sticky note on my monitor
that read, “Purchase 82 more shares of Altria Group and pick up
some Alcan Inc.”.
Day four
Already four days in and I am doing great! (thanks to the
stranger). After another anonymous call, I purchased 122 shares of
Laidlaw International and picked up a bunch of Hawaiian Electric
Industries.
Day five
Today was a slow trading day. I picked up some Celanese Corp and
General Dynamics Corp. Hopefully the tip I received will pay
off.
Day six
I got an anonymous tip that my favorite supermarket chain was down
35 percent, so I decided to load up on Kroger Company.
Day seven
I checked my voicemail and got this great tip, “Colgate Palmolive
is up 1 point, buy now! Also pick up some Phelps Dodge as it will
be on the rise soon” So I did just that.
Day eight
My last day of trading and everything is going great! My stock
purchase from day four was on an up trend, so I decided to grab
more. I purchased an additional 21 shares of both Hawaiian Electric
Industries and Laidlaw International Inc.
Day nine
The market crashed and I lost everything!!! If only I could find
this stranger and ring his neck!!! To my surprise, while at lunch,
I received a secret message on a napkin. I’ve yet to figure out its
meaning. Please help!
