The East Preston Tram Depot has just become the first ‘Green Depot’. The Green Depot is an exciting new initiative in which the depot is transformed into probably one of the most environmentally friendly industrial/commercial sites in all of Australia.
From huge solar cells on the tram shed roofs for electricity, sky lights, automated light switches to turn lights off when not required, 3 huge 18,000 litre water tanks for washing the trams, segregated waste disposal bins, to high tech waterless urinals.
Wow! Yarra Trams is serious about Environmental Sustainability. And at the same time, they are also greatly reducing their expenditure costs. Good on ‘em.
Please do not tread on their new garden, as you do not need to leave the path for this cache. Just use your usual Geocaching skills of deduction for this one. It is a small hand made container, so small, thin swaps are ok. The items inside have a Sustainability theme though does not need to stay that way. Enjoy.
