Geocache Description:

A very challenging cache situated on top of Tryfan Bach (Little Tryfan) in the Ogwen Valley, Snowdon.

***Warning***
Only attempt this cache if you are either a confident scrambler or a rock climber

This cache can be done by either climbing one of the many easy routes (ranging from Difficult to Severe on the slabs below or by scrambling up to the top from either end.

Please note that the scrambling way is still quite hard if you have never done anything like it before. Its about a grade 1 scramble - i.e. you have to use your hands and will be climbing up/down short sections of rock. You dont need a rope if you get to it by scrambling which is why this is not a 5 star cache but you do need to be confident with heights.

For climbers the easiest route on the slabs is as follows:

Little Tryfan Arete - 240 Feet - UK Climbing Grade: Difficult (although other guides class it as a Moderate)
Start at a pile of booulders beneath the well worn arete, at the lefternmost edge of the slabs.
Pitch 1. 80 feet. A number of variants lead to a large ledge and good belays.
Pitch 2. 80 feet. Keep to the very edge of the arete as much as possible to heighten the sense of exposure.
Pitch 3. 80 feet. The climbing and the angle both ease off considerably towards the top. The caches location is then a short scramble from the top of the climb.

(The above is taken from the Ogwen Climbing Guide apart from the cache bit! If you have a 60m rope, 50m is pushing it, you will be able to do it in a single pitch).

The cache is located in the small plateau above the largest gully/crack on the slab. You will have to be careful retreiving it because it is within view of a couple of the more popular belay points at the top of the slabs.

Please let us know if you liked this cache. We are planning on setting up a series of hard mountaineering caches throughout Snowdon and would like to know if people are up for the challenge! Next one planned is going to be on the fantastic Cneiffon Arete (Grade 3 scramble / Diff Rock climb)and we hope may be the one of the hardest caches in the UK (a true 5 star!) but we dont want to put it up there for no one to do it!
