Come to a meet, greet & learn Geocaching Event which will be held during the Stroud Township Community Day 2005 celebration. Stroud Township has been a great supporter of geocaching. There are already 14 geocaches located within Stroud Township parks and properties. They have asked us if we'd like to participate in their Community Day activities and set-up a table to provide information to anyone interested in geocaching.
Any prospective and new geocachers are invited to come by and learn more about geocaching. I plan on having a display set up to show what geocaching is and having an information sheet available for interested individuals. We will demonstrate how to use a GPS unit. I will be setting up some temporary caches in the park just for practice and demonstration purposes. Those of you who are already "experts" are invited to come and help explain to the newcomers what geocaching is and how to hunt down a geocache.
This is a great opportunity to get together and meet both new and experienced geocachers. We will also be having a Travel Bug exchange and a raffle of geocaching items. And if anyone is interested in hiding a new cache, you have plenty of time to plan a hide and event attendees can get an advance copy of the coordinates before they are posted on the website.
This event will be on Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Brodhead Creek Park on Route 191 (just north of Stroudsburg). Rain date is September 17th. The coordinates listed above are for the location of our table. Look for a small 9'x9' canopy with "Pocono Geocachers" on it. Parking is at 41° 01.422 / 75° 12.378.
While you're there, you can also check out the other activities that are being held in the park. Stroud Township is sponsoring their free Community Day Event to foster an appreciation of the Pocono environment and local parks, and to raise public awareness of recreation opportunities available in their parks. There will be live music, artists, food vendors ($), activities for kids, nature walks, speakers, and many participants with a variety of information tables/demonstrations. September 8th UPDATE: I've updated the coordinates to reflect the approximate location of our table in the park. Parking coordinates are also listed above. I've submitted (for approval) a new cache at a location within the park. All attendees will receive the coordinates and have a chance to log before being listed on the website.
