This cache is a plastic container large enough to hold many smaller items. There is a camera placed in the cache that we would like to see what kind of pictures the cache hunters may take. We will post the good pictures in the gallery.
This cache deals with a part of the Gettysburg Campaign of the Civil War. Entrenchments are still visible in the area on both sides of the road. They were prepared in June 1863 by the militia under Colonel J.C. Higgins against a threatened Confederate attack toward the railroad in Altoona. The march of troops toward Gettysburg on June 30 through July 1 ended the danger and the need for these defenses.
The cache is located near these entrenchments and there is also a plaque with more information located at the point (N40 06.014 W078 23.403).
