BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi armyrotc1
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

You may email me at via the link to my profile on the log. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GCxxxx number, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

NOTICE: THE ABOVE COORDINATES ARE ONLY THE START OF THIS MULTI AND NOT THE CACHE CONTAINER ITSELF!

WARNING: PARTS 4,5, and 6 OF THE MULTI-CACHE REQUIRE SURE FOOTING AND AT TIMES CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! CACHERS MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVERSE MANY DIFFICULT SECTIONS OF ROCKS AND BOULDERS IN ORDER TO REACH THIS CACHE! IN ORDER TO REACH THE FINAL CACHE YOU MUST NEGOTIATE A SHEER FACE AND THEN SHUFFLE ACROSS A 20+ FOOT DROP TO ROCKS BELOW! THERE IS LITTLE MARGIN FOR ERROR BUT SPECIAL EQUIPMENT IS NOT NECESSARY! WADING MAY BE REQUIRED DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF DAY!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BRINGING A PRINTED OUT VERSION OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR HUNT!!!

This multi-stage cache requires you to answer specific questions about your surroundings in order to verify you completed the cache and get you to the final stage. This is not a virtual cache, but the first stages sure seem like it.

This cache is my attempt of coming up with a cache similar to all the great hides that TOUCHSTONE has created across the Central Coast. Curse you and your caches TOUCHSTONE!! (just kidding)

I named this cache BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY because I want this cache to hopefully keep an American/patriotic/freedom theme. I decided to make this a difficult, multi-staged, and dangerous cache hunt to symbolize the difficulties and dangers that went into fordging the MOST POWERFUL and GREATEST COUNTRY on Earth!

Now that I have given the warnings and background information for this cache I will be able to start the description of this multi-stage hunt.

NOTE: PLEASE E-MAIL ME THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS TO VERIFY YOU WENT HERE!

START : The coordinates for the start of this cache are N 36*37.404 W 121*54.897. Once you have found parking nearby (may be difficult on weekends) and walk over to the coordinates, you will find yourself right off the main road and looking out to the water. Follow the asphalt trail that meanders down to the first stage.

STAGE 1: N 36*37.391 W 121*54.877 These coordinates should bring you down to a busy trail inhabited by many pedestrians (locals know this as the "Rec Trail."). To verify you were here answer this question. WHAT IS ALLOWED ON THE PAVED SECTION ONLY?

STAGE 2: N 36*37.418 W 121*54.892 These coordinates should make you turn left on the "Rec Trail" and bring you to a bench. Answer this question to verify you were here. WHO WAS THIS BENCH DEDICATED TO?

STAGE 3: N 36*37.439 W 121*54.903 These coordinates will take you further along the "Rec Trail" to another bench. Have a seat and look out at the ocean. While you relax answer this question. AS YOU LOOK STRAIGHT OUT ON THE BAY, YOU WILL SEE MANY BOUYS. HOW MANY YELLOW BOUYS WITH ORANGE FLAGS ARE THERE? YOU WILL NEED THIS TO DISCOVER THE COORDINATES FOR THE CACHE LOCATION!

STAGE 4: N 36*37.443 W 121*54.899 Now this is where the hunt gets much more dangerous! At this point you will see a little traversed dirt "path" through the iceplant. This little path will lead you down to a rocky beach of sorts. The terrain gets tougher. You will need to bound along this beach for a while. There are parts where you will have to climb up and over large outcroppings. At times you may need to sit down and make sure you can get down safely. Stay clear of the breaking waves unless you come at high tide in which case you will need to get wet and wade. Gradually make your way to the next waypoint.

STAGE 5: N 36*37.459 W 121*54.926 This is where you will make the final ascent to the cache. When you reach this point you will need to turn left and face the steep rock face. You will need to ascend this face at this point and make your way to the top where you see a large timber retaining wall.

STAGE 6: N 36*37.459 W 121*54.9AA This is the final coordinates at the location of the cache. In order to figure out the missing digit (A) you will need to recall the number of bouys with orange flags that you counted earlier. Plug this number in for A and you should have the cache. It may take more than a minute or two at the cache location to actually locate it because of the vast possibilities of hiding places and because of the little area for standing on without falling 20+ feet down a sheer face on ROCKS! If you need help take a look at the SPOILER HINT but in order to get the full difficulty don't have a look at the hints!

The original cache contents are as follows:
1 Police Harley-Davidson money clip
1 Don't Tread on Me bumper sticker (not a trade item, but a FTF prize that I hope you will place on your vehicle just as I have done with my Jeep)
1 Police Harley-Davidson keychain
1 M1911 Victory pistol keychain
1 Superman action figure
1 Mister Sifter TB
1 YELLOW JEEP TB #1081

Please make sure to rehide the cache container EXACTLY how you found it so it does not fall down into the ocean below! Make sure the objects that obstruct the cache location are PUT BACK in the same manner! Thanks much!

Hopefully everyone enjoys this cache. Hopefully nobody gets any serious bodily harm on this cache. Hopefully you all have a fun time searching for this cache and add another well earned notch in your GPS. Have fun and happy caching!
