This cache is an easy find on rolling terrain at 2,354 feet elevation and can only be found after driving through one of the most beautiful valleys in Rabun County, Georgia. It is near a site of historical significance and you should vist the water mill in addition to finding the cache.
Barker's Creek waters originate in North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest, meets Betty's Creek and flows into the Little Tennessee near Dillard, Georgia. Barker's Creek is the power source for a water-powered corn mill that has been in operation since 1949. The mill is now operated once a month and owned by the Hambidge Center.
This antique Barker's Creek Mill is a tribute to things past but is also a working mill where corn meal and grits are ground and sold. You can purchase meal and grits on the first Saturday of every month.
The ammo box cache is located in a woodlot next to the mill. This location is an excellent spot to place and find travel bugs for those who want a change of pace from hiking miles and climbing mountains to an easy but rewarding cache.
