Nellie Creek is one of our favorite spots in Hinsdale County. We visit it every time we are here in summer.
This cache is to replace a cache that was taken.
This cache is made a bit difficult by the canopy and the narrowing canyon walls. The clue should be a dead giveaway to locating this cache.
From Lake City go out Henson Creek road. The drive is beautiful. About 4.8 miles out you will see a road to the right for Nellie Creek among other things. The sign recommends 4 wheel drive and we were in a Jeep but we saw several vehicles that were 2 wheel drive. Use your own judgment. High clearance is desirable.
This road climbs along the creek in loads of beautiful settings. Note the waterfall on your left as you go up.
The cache is located just past the place where the creek first crosses the road. This is 1.8 miles from the main road. Parking for one vehicle is straight ahead after the creek crossing.
It will be necessary to cross the creek here either on foot or in a vehicle to find this cache.
