Teams must register no later than August 7, 2005. We will have a couple extra poker hands if a team shows up without registering, but if too many unregistered teams show up, we will not have enough poker hands to go around.
We will meet at the starting point at 1:00 p.m. At 1:30, or when all registered teams are present, whichever comes first, a list will be handed out. The list will be five more or less interesting locations in the Greater Mansfield Metropolitan Area. The locations will be listed in random order. Each list will have the same locations on it, but each list will have the locations in a different order. (Assuming we have fewer than 121 teams participating. If we have 121 or more teams registered, some lists will be duplicated.) Teams may seek the sites in any order they desire.
Each team will have 2 hours to visit all five sites. Each team will pick up one envelope from each of the five sites. The envelopes will be sealed. Each will contain a playing card. The cards will be shuffled and dealt randomly into the envelopes, so no one will know what cards are in the envelopes, no one will know what cards are at any site. The five envelopes, when placed in the proper order, will have the location of the poker game.
Teams that don’t make it to the table by 3:30 p.m. will not be eligible to play. Teams with opened envelopes or envelopes that have been tampered with will not be allowed to participate. This is to make the competition fair to all players.
Each team will bring their UNOPENED envelopes to the poker table. The house will deal itself a hand, then the teams will open their envelopes in the order they arrived at the table. The team with the highest poker hand will win the grand prize.
The entire run will be less than five miles, perhaps less than three, depending on the order your team attacks the list. People who want to walk, jog, or ride bicycles are encouraged. All traffic rules will be in effect in the town, so walkers, runners, riders and drivers should take care not to get hurt or arrested.
