Artist's impression of Cippenham Palace
This cache is set close to Cippenham Moat, earthworks which are believed to have surrounded a 13th century moated house known as Cippenham Palace. No evidence of buildings remain, but the moat is clearly evident and also appears on OS maps of the area.
To complete this cache you need to visit the information sign which is located at the co-ordinates at the top of the page. Some simple arithmetic will then give you the final co-ordinates of the geocache. The sign is sited within the moat area. Although open to the public please be aware this site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and as such is protected by law, please ensure you respect the site and don't forget to cache in trash out!
The cache is close to, but not within the area of the moat. To reveal its location you must, from the following co-ordinates, subtract the year in which Richard, Earl of Cornwall gained manorial rights in Cippenham from the Northing co-ordinate and subtract the year he spent his honeymoon at the manor from the Easting co-ordinate:
N51 31.642 W000 38.968
The site is very close to Asda, so parking should not be a problem, please take care when retrieving and hiding the cache though as the area can be busy.
