Geocache Description:

This puzzle multi-part cache takes you on a tour around St Martins island in the Isles of Scilly. There are six clue locations around the island which reveal the co-ordinates of the cache.

The full trail will take between two and four hours depending on your familiarity of the place and how much wandering around this beautiful island you want to do. However, they can be done in parallel with the other caches on St Martins - Zak's Cache (GCP6N5), another puzzle multi-cache, and St Martins Afternoon Out (GCJQJW). If you are on a day trip to St Martins read the day-trippers notes at the end for advice on completing the cache and catching your boat back!

The clue locations and the cache are all accessible directly from public tracks, footpaths and trails.

Important note: The Map Datum for this cache is the Ordnance Survey of Great Britain. Make sure you set the Datum on your GPS to this. The co-ordinates are given in the British (OS) Grid format (grid square, easting, northing). On my eTrex unit the datum and format are changed from the Settings->Units screen.

The cache is located at SV 9ABC2 1DEF4 (SV is the literal OS grid square). Each clue location gives one of the digits represented by the letters A-F. (The co-ordinates shown at the top of the page are the WGS84 datum co-ordinates of clue location 1.)

Clue Location 1:
For this clue you can choose one of two locations depending on whether you are starting at Lower Town or Higher Town (the boat will arrive at one or the other depending on the tides).

SV 91665 16181 (Lower Town). If the pub lost six stones it would have A left (NB: a refreshment break here, good beers and sandwiches!).

SV 92985 15270 (Higher Town). Been "court" cache-hunting already?! How many there are is the value of A.

Clue Location 2:
SV 92108 16178. Ring! Take your call - F is the last digit in the number.

Clue Location 3:
SV 92843 15624. All a-bell cache hunters - B is the last digit in the year below.

Clue Location 4:
SV 94199 16102. Find the BenchMark - D is the last digit of its five digit number.

Clue Location 5:
SV 92561 16036. E is the numerical value of the name of a month on the plaque.

Clue Location 6:
SV 92293 16942. A-mazing shapes! You're standing in or near one that is shaped like a numerical digit. C is that digit (hint: it's not a zero).

Substitute the values of A-F into SV 9ABC2 1DEF4 and find the cache location. The cache is a 2-litre rectangular plastic box (with a smaller box inside it for the log book).

Notes for day trippers (some minor spoilers):
A day boat trip to St Martins will probably give you either 5 or 6 hours on the island, enough time to complete the cache but allow yourself enough time to get back to Lower Town or Higher Town. If you land at Lower Town the quickest order for the clue locations is 1,2,3,4,5,6. If you land at Higher Town the quickest order for the clue locations is 1,3,2,5,4,6. Clue location 5 is the most remote and is about an hour's round trip from the nearest other clue locations. So, if you're short on time you can use the solution for clue location 5 that is encrypted below (though you'll miss out on a great walk!). The cache is on the Lower Town half of the island (that doesn't give too much away!) so if your boat leaves from Higher Town allow at least three quarters of an hour to get there after leaving the cache.

Clue Location solutions:
Of course, only use these if you run out of time, get hopelessly stuck with the clues or just want to visit the cache without doing the puzzle trail.
