Where are we? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

While trying to organize a CITO on State Trust Land, we were informed that Geocaching is NOT an authorized recreation on State Trust Land.

I will be sending out as an email to some friends as well as archiving all my caches on state land within the next two weeks.

I was directed to re-read my application for permit:
http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/RecreationPermit.pdf[/red]

The Permittee shall not cause any refuse or allow any other foreign objects to be deposited on State Trust Land.

[red]Geocaching is not allowed on State Trust Land. Anyone can call the State Environmental Resources & Trespass office @ 602 542-2119 and ask to speak with Jody Latimer, Bill Webster or Ken Lamb if they have questions.
jlatimer@land.az.gov

I was told by Ken that in 2007 when he took over the web page there was no reference to Geocaching and never will be because it is covered in the application as leaving behind forien objects.

He (Ken) also tells me they have tried to contact Groundspeak many times but have not received a response.

So. I am archiving my caches with a note and it will go from there, however Groundspeak decides to act on it.[/red]

I will be picking up my containers as I can and will remove any found logs after the date of this posting.

Hopefully Groundspeak can make out some sort of an arrangement with the State Land Office, but from the talking to I got, I doubt it will happen.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Cookie tin hidden in the rocks. We catch some trouble from local cachers that our puzzles are hard. So we placed a cache called out of water. This has not seen many cachers because I guess the hike is to hard. Now we will try hiding a drive up cache.

Portions of this area are State trust land please have your permit when you come here.

We decided to make a run out to the mountains and try to cross from the west to the east. I spent a few hours looking over maps and area pictures to see if I could find a route and I believe I had it, so off we went in 110+ degree weather to have a wonderful day in the back country.

We made it to the Tortolita Black Hole cache and from here we headed off in another direction cutting back to the south east heading for N 32 29.931, W 111 06.382 where our plans had a turn left..

After an hour or so we came to the rockier part of the trip at N 32 31.681, W 111 04.338 and when we started up a 'road' (very loosly defined here) we found the road blocked by a structure that might in some world resemble a gate, though in this case it was fortified.

We tried going up another ridge road to see if it cut back in but this appeared to drop off in the wrong direction and we were not ready to disappear off a cliff face just yet. We put the jeep in reverse and headed back to the main road we had been on. (Junction was at N 32 31.681, W 111 04.338)

It is at this point we have no maps and no plans as we did not expect to need to come this way.

This time we decided to head North and see if we could find another way out then the way we had come. Around N 32 32.049, W 111 04.948 we decided to stay right and keep heading North to see if it connected to anything, as we were following tracks from something larger then a quad at this time.

After coming out of a real interesting area that crossed a wash, my son and I started to talk about the views. Of course from this moment on it was about finding the cache location to place one.

You have our route now and you know it is passable.

Come on out and enjoy this area as we did, we look forward to seeing the logs.

Drayman holds the container for you to see.

Drayman stands next to the hide spot.
