Geocache Description:

No Zombies

This cache is located at The Boulders in Pittsfield. There are 4 trailheads you can choose from. Container is a painted plastic coffee can.

The story behind the cache name: Right after placing this cache, I reached into my bag for my GPSr to mark the location... and remembered leaving it in the trunk of my car. Ah well. With a little help from Rocking The Goat a waypoint was obtained. The cache is yours now, my friends.

You can park at any of 4 locations to reach this cache:

Across from Hubbard Ave. Bridge, Pittsfield
N 42° 28.204 W 073° 11.766
There’s a small parking lot here. Trail begins to the west. Follow the blue blazed trail.
Rear of Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton
N 42° 28.592 W 073° 11.004
I’ve parked here in the past. Probably best during daylight hours.
Two locations on Gulf Road, Dalton
N 42° 28.991 W 073° 10.848
Most parking available here. Trail starts at green gate.
N 42° 29.170 W 073° 11.049
Room for one vehicle parked off the road. Trail starts at the green gate.

The trail to the top dead-ends at The Boulders. Despite the graffiti, the natural rock formations are quite beautiful. When I came here to place the cache (the first time in 10 years!) I realized that I’d never been here in the summer, only in the fall. In the fall, the views are well worth the hike.

The cache is not dangerous to reach, and the hide should not be too difficult. Be careful when removing and replacing the camouflage, and please make sure to place the cache upright to keep it dry.

Some additional info that you may find useful...

  1. As you can see, the area has, in the past at least, been visited and disrespected by partygoers. I can't speak to the prevalence of any such individuals at the site nowadays, but at least be aware that you may not be the only people visiting.
  2. The rocks up here are naturally very smooth. Climb at your own risk, and only when they're dry. Even the best boots will be mocked by these rocks when they're wet.
  3. As always, please respect the trails and the lands around them. Much of it is actually privately owned, but is made available for public use. Anyone CITO-ing, expect broken glass and cans.

Enjoy! And please…
