YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH PART I AND PART II TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR
THIS GEOCACHE
PART I: Go to N38 52.612 W120 05.155 This is a micro
cache container with a log to sign. It also has the coordinates to
PART II which are the same as those listed at the top of this
page.
PART II: This half of the cache is a virtual cache.
Either send to me, at warrenh2002@hotmail.com, a photo of the exact
area of the cache coordinates or describe to me via email the exact
area of the cache and tell me how many lakes you can see from that
location. Please don't log your answers or photos that might reveal
the answers for others.
LOGGING YOUR CACHE: Once you have completed this
geoadventure, go ahead and submit your log.
Climb to the top of Mount Tallac and see all the major lakes of
the Lake Tahoe area.
This is a beautiful but somewhat strenuous hike. It is uphill
all the way to the top of Mount Tallac and down all the way back.
You can approach Mount Tallac from the front or back of the
mountain.
ATTACKING THE MOUNTAIN FROM THE FRONT: Currently, this
geocache directs you to climb the mountain from the back side.
In the furture, an additional log cache will be established so that
you can also get this cache from the front side, if desired.
Starting at the Mount Tallac trailhead off Highway 89 is the
steepist route. There is FREE PARKING at the trailhead.
ATTACKING THE MOUNTAIN FROM THE BACK: Kolly Wobbels and I
recommend this route because the climb is not so steep. We have
done both. There is FREE PARKING to the north of Fallen Leaf
Lake near coordinates N38 52.621 W120 04.813.
ATTACKING FROM ONE SIDE AND LEAVING FROM THE OTHER. You
can also approach the mountain from one side and leave by the
other. That will require you to make car arrangements with someone
to pick you up to take you to your car. Currently, you can only
do this cache from the back side of Mount Cache, but you can
return down the front side. (The back side is the side away from
Lake Tahoe and the front side is the side facing Lake Tahoe.)
Both routes require stenuous hiking and take about the same time
to do. Allow yourself 3 to 4 hours each way depending on how fit
you are.
PERMIT REQUIRED: Find the hiking permit box at the end of
the parking lots. Fill it out to make your entering the wilderness
legal and to protect you. Overnight camping requires a permit that
you can't get at this permit box.
WATER: Have plenty to take with you for the amount of
time you think it will take you.
OPPS!: I forgot to add a pencil!
