The good
folks of the Boot Group and JohnX are co-hosting this gathering.
The focus is not on finding caches while at the picnic, but
rather getting acquainted with others, and meeting with other
geocaching friends. Nametags will be available, if you don't
bring your own, so that other folks can approach you and strike
up a conversation.
A reasonable time to arrive is 12:00 Noon and
you can expect to enjoy good company until about 3:30 PM.
This is a public park so you are welcome to stay as long as you
wish. The picnic site is next to the cranberry barn and the dirt
road to the tiny parking area can be found at: 41.49.314,
070.54.123. You may have to park there and walk a little bit. Leave
your boats at home, there is no water acces at the new site.
Sorry!
A couple of small grills, hot dogs, buns and condiments will be
supplied for the carnivores. Bring a picnic lunch or perhaps
something to share with others. There will be a table and cooler
filled with ice to keep food safe. If you are planning on bringing
something to share, send an email or post it in your log.
There are 3 caches within walking distance and one or two new ones
will be placed in the area before that weekend to encourage
attendees. Picnic tables, an awning for shelter in case of rain and
toilet facilities are available.
There will be a raffle for a stocked and disguised cache, as well
as a dash for cache event. Quite a few travel bugs have been logged
so bring some to exchange. You will find several fishing poles and
bait if someone cares to try drowning a few worms in the pond,
which I am told has good fishing. Bocce balls and a croquet set
will be available for use by all.
The entrance to the Betty's Neck Conservation Area can be found by
crossing the cranberry bogs at 57 Long Point Road in Lakeville. The
dirt road to the parking area is not in good shape. Consider
walking the extra .1 mile to save your car. Please look at the
online maps. The coordinates of the picnic site are
posted.
