Grab yer banjo or scattergun and head on up
Deadman's Hill to find yer secret place!
Keep an eye out fer critters and ol' coots cuz
thar ain't nobody goes up this here way . . . .
TO GIT THAR: If yer headin' west from Port Angeles, turn
right onto West Twin Road from Highway 101. Yer turn's just west o'
milepost 209. Head down West Twin Road about one mile. Turn left
onto Forest Service Road #3006.
WHERE DO I START?: You can park yer rig near the 'lil
bridge (it's safe 'nuff--no structural 'tegrity problems) if yer
gonna walk up or ride one o' them fancy pedal bikes up. Matter o'
fact, the entire cache can be done by mountain bike. It's 'bout 1.5
miles up the hill to the alternate startin' point, so bring plenty
o' fried pork rinds fer snacks. If yer rig works real good or yer
just plain lazy, it's purdy easy to drive closer to the spot.
Follow 3006 over the bridge and go up the hill to the right just
past the bridge. Continue up the hill. Don't take no turns! Park at
(or near) a small pullout on the left o' the road 'bout 1.5 miles
from the bridge. Ain't no good GPS signals in these parts, so look
fer a purdy red ribbon on a tree at the pullout. Head up the trail
(really an old road) from the pullout. It's a mile or so--mostly
uphill--to yer secret place from here. NOTE TO CITY FOLK: This
ain't no government maintained trail, so wear boots, bring
food/water, and stuff fer skeeters, etc.
WHAT'S THAR?: What we got here's a redneck kinda cache.
It's a big ol' ammo box chock full o' stuff. Ain't no vittles or
nuthin', but plenty o' fun stuff fer everbody, includin' the
youngins. Bring some hillbilly stuff to trade or fer bartering with
the locals if things go south fer ya on the hill.
WHY'S IT CALLED DEADMAN'S HILL?: We dunno. Ain't no
tellin. Don't you worry none about it. NOTE: If you backtrack a
'lil from the cache and continue up the "main" trail, thar's a much
better viewpoint at the top o' the hill--it's a ways up thar, but
it's worth the effort.
Y'all have fun up thar, ya hear?
