Geocache Description:

On top of Mt. Chaudron

This cache is hidden on the top of Mt. Chaudron ("The Cauldron" or "Kettle"). Locals sometimes call this Mt. Cheminis, but don't get confused by the signs that lead north from the highway to the Cheminis area. The entrance road runs south from Hwy 117. Parking is about 1KM south on east side. Climb is rugged, but I've seen three and four year olds do it with some help. Less able members of your party may choose to wait on the bench about 10 minutes up the trail. When in doubt during the ascent take the trail to the right. When you reach the top follow the pink tape to the orange tape (not my trails). According to Google Earth, when you reach the cache you will have crossed the border from Ontario into Quebec. "Border Climber" is near the base of what was a fire lookout tower, one of many that used to be located on the higher hills in the area. Walk a few metres east and you'll be able to see the smoke stacks in Noranda.
