One of a series of caches set for cyclists or walkers on the new
Clay Trail cycle route linking Wheal Martyn (St. Austell) to The
Eden Project (Bodelva) There is free parking at the Eden Project
when it is open, otherwise various parking spots along the trail.
The caches are available at all times.
The Wheal Martyn - Eden Project Clay Trail is about 5 miles long
and apart from crossing one major road and a short stretch on a
quite country road, uses existing bridle ways and newly built cycle
tracks. The route is gravel and tarmac along its length and is
suitable for cyclists and pushchairs. The caches are set just off
the main trail and may require a short scramble or walk to get to
them.
The trail takes you through some amazing landscapes, woodland and
heathland in abandoned valleys, working clay pits, 19th & 20th
century ‘conical sand tips’ now completely reclaimed by nature and
superb views over St. Austell with St. Austell bay beyond.
This cache (a 400ml cliplock box) is set just off the trail (past
the transmitter)and overlooks the town of St. Austell with views of
St Austell bay from the Gribben to Mevagissey.
