Geocache Description:

Commonly referred to as the Scissortail, this medium-sized songbird is commonly found throughout the state of Texas despite its status of The State Bird of Oklahoma. The beautiful species is unmistakable in flight due to its extremely long, forked tail which scissors open and closed. While the female and male are similar, the female tends to be on the smaller scale. These birds range in size from 9 – 15 inches tall and can weigh nearly 2 ounces. The scissor-tailed flycatcher has an almost white head and upper body with a salmon-colored belly. While populations are on the rise in Texas, preferring the openness of the countryside and the never-ending supply of summer grasshoppers, the decline rate of the Scissortail in Oklahoma is due to poaching the bird for its tail.

This cache is located in the open country. Take a moment to find a scissortail sitting on a high-wire in wait for that next meal. While in flight, watch its acrobatics before locating the decon container with a log and the following: one scratch-off, a plastic dinosaur, a stretchy spider, a wooden nickel, and 10 BoxTopsforEducation.

I don’t want to give away the location, but the surrounding views are best at sunrise. Bring a camera if you have one! It is not necessary to enter the any private property.
