Geocache Description:

Cache is located at a lookout above Mataura, and is a 35mm film canister.

Canister contains instructions on how to find the real cache. The second cache is a clear 500ml container which is not visible at any distance.

Travel too the second cache by vehicle.

History:
Te Puoho of the Ngati Tama tribe (Nelson)traveled down the west coast and across the Haast pass to capture the lands of Murihiku at Tuturau, and were successful.
Chief Tuhawaiki from Ruapuki Island heard of this and set off to defeat Te Puoho.
In December 1836 at Tuturau, Tuhawaiki slain Te Puoho and captured his men in-slaving them.

Its a 10 minute walk up to the monument from the car park.
