Geocache Description:

Located on the North Country Scenic Trail, south of Brule, just off Hwy 27 in rolling sandy pine country. Easy terrain.

In Honor of the late Gaylord Nelson

Gaylord Nelson was the founder of Earth Day. He served Wisconsin as a US Senator and Governor. He sponsored the National Trail System Act, North Country National Scenic trail and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. His work to create a national network of trails will be enjoyed by countless generations who find solitude and refreshment in a walk in the woods.

Begin your walk in the woods at the Gaylord Nelson portal to the North Country Trail off Highway 27, Park in the lot. Check out the Memorial Stone and information panel on the Brule River State Forest section of the North Country Trail. Follow the North Country connector trail to the main trail. Take the North Dakota (ND) route a short distance to the first “Lonely Oak” tree on your left in this pine plantation. The cache is just a few paces away in a plastic jar with a red cover. The cache contains TB AlcatraZebras, a Milwaukee Brewer Hat, Rapala NorMark Patch, BuckleUp keychain, Interlock puzzle, Flag Pin, "I Make a Defference" Keychain and a Post It Note Pad. Be sure to sign the log book, take something and leave something!
