So, we realized that all the caches we've hidden have been small
and easy. To help balance out our collection of hides, we're very
happy to bring you the Lake Barton Bucket Cache!
This is a brown bucket hidden well off-trail in deep brush in the
woods near Burke Centre's Lake Barton. Long pants and a post-hunt
tick-check are a must. This cache was adopted by NetworkCacher on
04/17/08. Difficulty and terrain rating adjusted upward on
11/2/08.
Approach from the North: The easiest approach. Park at
the gravel road up between the recycling center and the Burke
Centre utility yard. Don't follow the road, but cut straight back
into the woods toward GZ. You'll avoid having to cross the creek
from this direction.
Approach from the West: Park at the cul-de-sac at the end
of Oak Leather Drive or in an unmumbered parking spot on Summit Oak
Way. Find a path and head over to the back of the lake. Once you
arrive at the lake site, go down the big hill and into the
woods.
Approach from the South: Park on Cove Landing Road. Head
into the woods between buildings 5800 and 5801. Go straight back
down the hill. Perhaps the easiest approach, but it's also the most
suspicious because there's no trail between the two condo
buildings.
Approach from the East: Our personal favorite approach, but
easily the longest and most difficult. I like it because it gives
you more of the hunter experience and you can easily access the
woods without being spotted by muggles. Park at the Community
Center on the other side of Roberts Parkway. Cross Roberts Parkway
at the crosswalk and go left. When you get to the bottom of the
hill and you can head into the woods, backtrack on the other side
of the black chainlink fence heading N until you hit the stream. A
giant gray heron nests along the stream, so you might have a close
encounter!
Tips: You're on the wrong side of the stream if you are with
the Smurf trees and the fire hydrant. Easiest stream crossing is
West of the cache site, but can be very difficult after heavy rain.
There are logs that you can use to cross, but be careful!
In general, the hunt will be tough in the summer months when
vegetation is at its peak and easier in the winter months when it's
not so thick. Good luck and have fun!
Larger-sized trade items can be left in the outer container, small
ones can go in the inner container. Please close both containers
properly!
