This old gasoline filling station was in operation during the 1920’s and early 1930’s, being put into use after the highway was completed around the west side of Walker Lake. Road construction through the cliff area around the lake was a formidable challenge for the early day highway builders, but they opened up the road in 1920. It was a welcome thing for travelers from Hawthorne to be able to journey by automobile to Schurz, and points north, without taking the very difficult east side of the lake, which was, and is, very sandy and rocky. The cache is in the area of the old station and it’s a gallon plastic paint container, with a screw on cover, filled with the usual trade goodies. A log book and pencil are enclosed along with our usual Susan B for the first to find. Please hide it well. Enjoy.
