Geocache Description:

A short walk (about a half-mile total) through the Beach Hill area of Santa Cruz will have you gathering clues from six historical homes to solve this multi-waypoint mystery.

NOTE: THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE BEGINNING COORDINATES OR ANY OF THE OTHER GIVEN COORDINATES! Cache is within 0.5 miles of the first waypoint. Indiana Klone and Mye Missing Marbles It was early morning, and I was deep into the puzzle of the hieroglyph on the scroll before me when the door to my office at the Santa Cruz Museum of Arts and History burst open. I looked up. Before me stood a stunningly 2burbacious woman. “Doctor Indiana Klone?” “Uhh ...” I uhhed. “I’m Louise E. Anna, the new Director of Exhibits for MAH.” “Uhh ... Mah pleased to meet ….” “Dr. Klone! I need your help. I’ve lost Mye Marbles!” “You’ve lost your marbles?” “No! Not my marbles! I’ve lost the Mye Marbles!” I stood up quickly. “Not THE Mye Marbles?” I said. “Why, the Mye Marbles are the only known perfect marbles made of Squaranium! They’re priceless! But Mye Marbles are part of the private marble collection of Marky “Shooter” Mye, the Marble Mogul.” “Yes, Marky has generously agreed to an exhibit at the museum. Mye Marbles were delivered here last night, but they’re not here!” “Tell me more.” “Well, last night I gave Mye Marbles to William Ding of the MAH Blue Plaques Historical Buildings program.” (http://www.santacruzmah.org/history_award.html) “I know Bill Ding. I helped his historical building department out when he received a federal grant to catalog all of the historical buildings of Santa Cruz County by latitude and longitude.” “Well, apparently Bill Ding was concerned that the project to re-key the Museum by the new security manager, Sgt. Collin Allcars Stitches, would jeopardize the security of Mye Marbles, so he hid them somewhere outside of the museum. Unfortunately, Bill Ding is unconscious in Dominican hospital right now, having been knocked out in a lawn bowling accident late last night.” “Bill always liked to push the limits in lawn bowling,” I nodded. “Well, I went through Bill Ding’s desk this morning, looking for clues as to where he may have hidden Mye Marbles, and I found this,” she said, handing me a sheet of paper. I took the paper and studied it quickly. “Why, these are waypoints!” I said. “And I recognize them: they’re waypoints of some of the historical buildings of the Beach Hill district of Santa Cruz. I cataloged them myself! It looks like Bill Ding hid Mye Marbles in a geocache, and the clues to find the cache can be found at these waypoints! Well, this isn’t so bad,” I said, relaxing and grinning widely. Turning the paper over, my big happy grin suddenly froze. “By The Saints!” I exclaimed. There, clipped to the sheet, was a signature item! “The CacheManian Devils are after this cache!” I said. “They’re raiders of geocaches. And they’re good,” I said slowly. “They’re real good.” I paused. “If the CacheManian Devils are already after this cache …” My heart sank. I stroked the signature item. “Wait!” I shouted. “This signature item is still warm! The CacheManian Devils may have a head start, but not much of one. We’ll have to hurry if we’re going to beat the CacheManian Devils to this cache!" I said. But then I remembered ... "Unfortunately my GPS is still at Coralgeo’s Minimum Delay GPS Cleaners for detailing.” “You, reader,” I said, turning to you, the reader. “Yes, that’s right. I’m talking to you! It’s up to you to help us beat the CacheManian Devils to the cache! The clues are below. Grab your GPS and a notebook, and meet us at Waypoint One on the double!” "And be careful when recording numbers. Do not confuse apartment numbers or plaque dates for street address numbers. And for heaven's sake, do not mix up the order in which you write the numbers." "And there is no need to search for the cache at these six Waypoints. The Cache is at Waypoint Seven." Waypoint One: N 36 degrees 57.909 W 122 degrees 01.501 Record the even-number Front Street address of the Sunshine Villa followed by the date on the blue plaque. (It's ok to go onto the porch.) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Waypoint Two: N 36 degrees 57.971 W 122 degrees 01.451 Record the address number of the Judah House, the building to your north. __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Waypoint Three: N 36 degrees 57.987 W 122 degrees 01.415 Record the address number of the Golden State Villa (on the street curb to your right) followed by the date on the blue plaque. __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Waypoint Four: N 36 degrees 57.981 W 122 degrees 01.405 Record the 3rd Street address on the north side of the Eben Bennett Home followed by the date on the blue plaque. __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Waypoint Five: N 36 degrees 57.996 W 122 degrees 01.299 Record the address number of the Cliff Crest building to the west followed by the date on the blue plaque. (It's ok to go onto the porch.) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Waypoint Six: N 36 degrees 58.015 W 122 degrees 01.304 Record the Cliff Street address number of the Deming House to the west. __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ By now you should have recorded 34 numbers that sum to 152. The Indiana Klone and Mye Missing Marbles cache is at Waypoint Seven: N 3X degrees AB.CDE W 12Y degrees FG.HJK where X = the last number you wrote at Waypoint One A = the sum of the first two numbers you wrote at Waypoint Six B = the last number you wrote at Waypoint Six C = the first number you wrote at Waypoint Three D = the number of times you wrote the number "1" at Waypoint Two E = the sum of each of the different numbers you wrote at Waypoint Two Y = the second number you wrote at Waypoint Three F = the second number you wrote at Waypoint Five G = the last number you wrote at Waypoint Four H = the number of times you wrote “9” at Waypoint Four J = the fifth number you wrote at Waypoint Four K = the first number you wrote at Waypoint One Good luck! Enjoy! And happy caching! 50sumtin P.S. Congratulations on Sgt. Stitches on the FTF! I owe him one at our next event! And thanks to all of the geocachers I included in my story for their sense of humor!
