Geocache Description:

Small Cache container, magnetic key holder. Log and pencil only.

Welcome to Clarksville, Tennessee. Home of Wilma Glodean Rudolph. A truly missed local treasure.

This is my second cache, and a little more personal one to honor Wilma Rudolph. From where this cache is, look straight ahead, that’s her marker, you can’t miss it. Here are the cords just in case. N. 36 30.605 & W 087 19.691. Make sure you check out her marker, Listed on it are all her achievements.

Because to claim this one BESIDE finding the cache and signing the log. You must e-mail me with what ( CITIOS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS ) on her marker means, it’s in the reflection. Do not post it here. If you don’t I will delete your log.

Wilma Rudolph's life is a story of achieving against the odds. Her first accomplishments were to stay alive and get well! On September 7th, 1960, in Rome, Wilma became the first American woman to win 3 gold medals in the Olympics. She won the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and ran the anchor on the 400-meter relay team. This achievement led her to become one of the most celebrated female athletes of all time. In addition, her celebrity caused gender barriers to be broken in previously all-male track and field events.

There was one "first" accomplishment that was more special than any of the others, however. For Wilma, the fact that she insisted that her homecoming parade in Clarksville, Tennessee be open to everyone and not a segregated event as was the usual custom. Her victory parade was the first racially integrated event ever held in the town. And that night, the banquet the townspeople held in her honor, was the first time in Clarksville's history that blacks and whites had ever gathered together for the same event.

Rent the video before you check this one out, it’s truly an amazing true store. You will appreciate it more. And it’s actually a very good movie.

I have included a great web site, with her biography.
