Geocache Description:

South Union. A unique and interesting group of people came to South Union, KY in 1807...

A unique and interesting group of people came to South Union, KY in 1807 and remained there until 1922. Their master builders, carpenters, masons, stonecutters, bricklayers, lumber workers and blacksmiths designed the buildings on this property. This design is renowned for its structural purity, simple but eloquent beauty of line. There are several interesting aspects surrounding this area. Journals were kept describing their daily activities. One interesting piece of history is during the Civil War period, 1861-1864. Although they did not fight in the war, the journals reveal their sufferings and losses caused by the war. When we read these journals, we take a step back in time and envision how they lived, how they worshipped, discover their inventions and their contributions to the society. A museum houses the journals and also offers tours. This cache has two parts. The first coordinates take you to the actual structure. Once you reach this point, count the number of windows on the front of the building (Do not count the door). Take the square root of this number and this = X. Now count the shutters on the front of this building and the first numeral in this number = Y. The second numeral in this number = Z Now for the final coordinates: N36.53.XYZ W086.38.568 The cache is a small container about 3” X 8”. Original contents of the cache are a FTF button, a logbook with pen, a plush frog and puppy, friendship bands and a few other small items. We hope you enjoy this one.
