This is the first in what I hope to be a gradually increasing series of caches centered around
our abandoned past. These places can be fascinating and haunting remnants of times that were and representative of how profound change can be.
I recommend following the abandoned rail line from parking coordinates at the "Woodcarver's Gallery" (Formerly abandoned RR depot and sorry, I already took its pic for a locationless cache for depots!): N 41.29.003, W 080.26.341
You will see the remnants of the RR all around this former junction of two lines; look for ties, cinders and old bridges over the little creek (Gable Run). The cache itself is in an odd region where the leftovers of Depot Street run through the brush and meet up with the railroad line. This area has not been actively used in many years, so it is very interesting to see how time is eroding the past.
Regarding the 'Bike Trail Rising?'quip: The Sharon Herald said this month that folks are planning a new bike trail to go from where the cache is hidden down to Greenville along the 'ol RR bed. This will be a wonderful resource if all goes well. Let's hope they get the funding they need to go ahead. In
the meantime, you could take a little hike south along the RR bed to see the beaver dams and the OLD iron bridge not far from the cache. Maybe you could hide a cache yourself...Enjoy!
