Geocache Description:

NOTE: THE ABOVE COORDINATES ARE NOT THE ACTUAL LOCATION OF THE CACHE, BUT ARE THE STARTING POINT TO FIND THE CACHE CONTAINER. THEY ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE CACHE!

Cache 3 of 4: Saving Private Ryan: "The Man Means Nothing to Me, He's Just a Name"

This is the third cache of the four cache series based upon the movie Saving Private Ryan.

NOTE: REMEMBER TO WRITE DOWN THE CODES ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE LOGBOOK IN ORDER TO FIND THE FINAL CACHE LOCATION!

Plug in the coordinates at the top of this page and drive as far as you can. Eventually you will have to get out and walk across a bridge because the bridge is fenced off to all vehicle access. These coordinates should lead you over the bridge and along a paved road for a while until they zero out and you should be standing on a white line in the pavement (or very close to one).

Following your previous encounter with the German radio tower, you are very wary as you continue your cross country trek to Rem'al.

As you follow the road, you start to notice that the hedgerows get very dense on either side of you. This is a perfect place to be ambushed by German infantry or possibly a sniper on the ridgeline ahead.

You proceed very cautiously along the road, making sure that along the way your squad only walks along the flanks of the road and not directly down the center.

After walking for some time you grow less nervous about a German ambush and loosen up. Your men feel the same way. But not for long.

Somewhere down the road you can hear the distinct, but faint noise of a German halftrack making its way down through the hedgerows.

You yell out, "HALFTRACK! COVER!"

Instantly you and your men duck into the hedgerows to avoid detection.

The posted coordinates should put you to the left side of the road on a white line as mentioned before. To the right should be a clearing in the hedgerows with a small metal pole in the center of that clearing. Duck into this clearing and proceed to these coordinates: N 36* A9.661 W 121* 49.124 To figure out the number value of A you must recall the numbers that correspond to the letters from the previous cache. Once decoded, these coordinates lead you to a wooden post in the ground and a small opening in the hedgerows that is about 10 feet long and once you crawl through you will be in another clearing. Immediately to the right is another opening in the hedgerows marked with another metal post. You must LOW crawl through the opening for 10-15 feet. On your left side is where you will find the cache.

You and your squad find an area to conceal yourselves by low crawling into the center of a large bush, where there is plenty of room for everyone to be concealed from the halftrack. You wait intently as you hear it begin to approach and then pass away.

Suddenly you hear the distinct sound of a bazooka rocket crash into the halftrack. Everyone is confused because nobody knows who is shooting.

You and your squad jump out and clean up the German infantry that flows out of the destroyed halftrack. The guns fall silent.

You hear a voice say, "Don't shoot! We're coming out!"

They are American soldiers from the 101st Airborne. One of them bears the name Private James Francis Ryan...you have found him at last.

They will lead you to the bombed out town of Rem'al where you will encounter your final stage. Good luck.

The original contents of the cache are as follows:

1 logbook
1 pen
1 U.S. Army BDU tape
8 Mini assorted military vehicles (Jeeps/trucks/tanks/fighter jets)

Please try to keep an American/patriotic/military theme to this cache if possible. Thanks.

Have fun and, as always, happy caching!
