“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has
grown to over three hundred caches hidden in twenty-seven Indiana
counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to
eleven cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of
Dogs and their Humans. Over 600 cacher
teams have logged over 6,800 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ
caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA
SPIRIT QUEST #304
"ONE
OUT OF FOUR"
Welcome
to Allen Chapel, Allen Township, Noble County. Listen to the
SHADOW:
This
cemetery is located at what now is a fairly busy intersection.
There is an older church building here, but is no longer used as
such. Some years ago, it was set up as a residence, but appears to
be vacant at this time. There is off road parking in front and
beside the building.
This
is an older inactive cemetery, with a veteran of the War of 1812
buried here, who served with a New York unit. a number of Civil War
soldiers are buried or memorialized here also. It appears that a
couple of families here had heavy losses from that war. Most of the
servicemen have had newer replacement stones set. No modern war
veterans are buried here.
The
oldest legible marker I found was a broken one dated 1838, Leaning
against a tree in the weeds. There's a bee hive in one of the
large cedar trees. It was very busy the day I was here. Due to the
“imported” mites, there are not many hives that thrive in the wild
anymore. Most beekeepers go to great lengths to control mites in
the hives they maintain. --THE SHADOW
Two pairs of brothers left for the Civil war
from this area. Only one brother of the four returned. Abner and
Ebin Eddy died in 1861 and 1865 respectively, and of Henry and
James Tryon, only James returned. So it goes.
