Geocache Description:

Two ltr white containor - usual nicknacks.

The cache can be accessed by taking the East Coast Trail from either LaManche or Brigus South on the Southern Shore, HW 10. The trail is suited for hiking only. The cache should be accessible the year round. If you are a snowshoe enthusiast you can access this area by taking a direct route overland from LaMance road. We have traveled out to Freshwater on snowshoes several times; you would have to see the area in the winter to appreciate its beauty. There are a total of 6 caches between LaManche and Brigus South. A geocachers paradise.

In 1840 George Melvin left Burnt Cove and settled in LaManche in order to get closer to the rich fishing grounds of Freshwater Bay. This bay had some of the best cod trap births [locations] on the southern shore. The area was occupied for years, but with advent of the motor boat people moved to areas that were more accessible.Local story has it that the fishermen of LaManche would fish the area south of LaManche river and North of Freshwater river. The fishermen from Brigus South fished the area south of Freshwater river. Take a moment and reflect on those hard working people as you walk the shores of Freshwater Bay
