Geocache Description:

Alberta Geocaching 5 Year Anniversary

November 4th, 2000 was the date of the first geocache hidden in Alberta (2nd in Canada). What once was lost has now been found. Come all geocachers and celebrate with an informal get-together and campfire !

Theme: Campfire, BYO hotdogs or whatever you prefer
When: November 5th, 11am-4pm
Where: The coordinates are for the firepit at the Cook House
Who:All geocacher families welcome, minus the pets
Cost:50/50 draw, 2.50/person or just 1.50 if you wish to opt out of the 50/50 draw. 1/2 goes to winner, 1/2 goes to reservation fee (which I´ve paid) and remainder goes to SWC community fund.

What is the Cook House?:Outdoor shelter with picnic tables, wood stove, barbeque and fire pit.

What´s Provided:Firewood, filled water jugs and roasting sticks

Volunteers needed for: paper plates/napkins/cutlery

Personal items to bring:

  • Buns, hotdogs, drinks, snacks, condiments, marshmallows, you get the idea.
  • Water bottle
  • GPS and trade items (as if you need to be told :) )
  • Appropriate footwear/outerwear for the days weather
  • If there is a bunch of snow, bring snowshoes if you like. There is a dedicated S.S. trail.

Semi-scheduled Activities

  • 10:30 I´ll chop wood and get a fire going
  • 11:00 Y´all show up
  • 11:30 - 12:30 Hotdog roast
  • 12:30 - 2:00 Hike to Strathcona Wilderness 1 if ground is OK.

Other Activities

  • Geocaching (there's 2 new ones at SWC )
  • Placement of net new cache @ cookhouse ?
  • Hiking or Snowshoeing (if you have ´em)
  • ... or just enjoy the fire

For more info on the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, see here. There is a link to a map on the right hand side. If we get snowed out, we will be restricted to the red trails. There would have to be more than just a thin snow before they start to pack down and prepare for ski trails so I believe we have some leeway. I´ll confirm with SWC management that morning.

Suggestions are welcome, I don´t plan events for a living... ;)
