Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series of tribute caches set out by us for our fellow Edmonton geocachers

We recently celebrated our 300th find. During the last several months, our family had a lot of fun chasing amo boxes, Tupperware containers, 35 mm film canister and unusual objects (such as electrical boxes or Brass Caps survey monuments).

We decided to pay tribute to some of our fellow geocachers who made us drive around town and all over the place in search of those elusive prizes.

This particular one is for Geo-Explorer, now known as Klondike Mike. It is located in a park near Wayne Gretzky Drive. Don’t stop by the side of the road, there are better ways to access the cache!

Geo-Explorer is the first geocachers we met on the trails (well, sort of). When we started geocaching again, after retiring for almost three years, we went on a hunt to a nearby cache (First Home in Edmonton) hoping to be the first finders. The cache was set very near our home so we though we had a good chance at an FTF. When we got there, we saw a car parked by the side of the road, only meters away from the cache. That was Geo-Explorer, but we didn’t know it at the time. We got scared (!), took off and decided to do other caches and come back to that one later in the day. We learned a bit later that Geo-Explorer was after this cache to raise his FTF count, a challenge he and GPSVIXEN had set up between them two. We met Geo-Explorer for real a little later at the second annual Edmonton cache event in February of 2005. Since then, we met him and his family a couple of times and had good time with them.

Geo-Explorer sent us on interesting hunts in Sherwood Park, Edmonton and even as far as Lac Ste-Anne. He even set a couple cache at the lake (one on an island) just for us because he knew we were coming for the weekend! Geo-Explorer, this one is for you. Thank you!

Update (Aug 22, 2005): Geo-Explorer just recently went down into Alberta geocaching history by being the first finder of Alberta's very first cache "Strathcona Wilderness 1 (GCA6)". Congratulations Geo-Explorer!!!

There is a FTF prize, but wait… Here a little twist:

Hopefully Geo-Explorer will be FTF to claim the prize, but if that’s not the case, the FTF may decide to keep the prize or leave it for Geo-Explorer. The next finder, if still not Geo-Explorer, may also decide to keep it or leave it and so on… until the prize is claimed by either Geo-Explorer or any other finder. Good luck!

Happy hunting and Thank You Geo-Explorer.

FTF Update: Geo-X was, of course, FTF on his own tribute cache. He claimed his prize. Congratulations!
