I grew up just a few blocks from this spot, but it wasn't until
this Spring that I ventured up this trail to look around. Back in
the days when I attended Nessacus Middle School (and probably
before that) this area was known as HappyLand. I can't say why, for
sure, though I suspect that it had something to do with the
activities of the juvenile visitors that the area routinely had.
For all I know, the place I'm taking you to is the actual
HappyLand. For me, it's always just been the unknown beyond that
length of visible trail.
Park anywhere in the old Nessacus Middle School parking lot. You'll
find the trailhead at the end of First St. Ext when you cross High
street. The cache can be reached without bushwhacking, though some
of the "trails" as you get closer are used less often than others,
and are a bit more overgrown. Expect thorns, but not too many. In
case your signal is wonky, remember: you must first seek the
highest ground.
Cache is a medium sized Lock&Lock type container,
camouflaged in black, brown and green. As always, do your best to
hide it as well as you found it. The camo was done so that the
container shouldn't always have to be completely covered, but still
stay unnoticed.
Enjoy! And please…
