Geocache Description:

This is a neat old mining ghost town to explore that is way out
there!

Cinnabar was an active mining town until the late 60s. The mineral cinnabar is what mercury is obtained from. Please be respectful and leave the site intact for others to enjoy. Look, but please don't remove items. The cache is an ammo can.

Getting to this cache requires a 4WD, we recommend a short wheel base 4WD. We were able to get into the cache with a Ford Expedition but many might not want to try this. Of course this would be excellent for ATVs & motorcycles (highly recommended!)

To get to the jumping off point follow the road to Stibnite from Yellow Pine, Idaho. Starting point off that road is at Sugar Creek (N 44 56.165 W 115 20.105). Sugar Creek is identified by a forest service
sign.

A starting point for an alternate way to reach this cache is near Monumental Summit (N 44 54.498 W 115 16.518). It is possible to hike down to Cinnabar & the cache from this route. It is shorter than starting from Sugar Creek. This route is NO LONGER passable by anything larger than an ATV.
