Located on Ragged Mountain off the Eastern face of Mt Greylock in
Adams Mass This is a very difficult location. The last 250 yards or
so are very strenuous on the way up and quite slippery on the way
back down. When wet it is very easy to lose your footing so take
extra care on the way back down. If you have any doubts about your
phsyical capabilities you really should think twice about trying
it. In any event take water with you. . . Starting from the parking
area at the end of Thiel Road in Adams, take the trail north,
crossing Hoxie Brook. Continue on it towards: 42° 38.199N; 073°
08.340W About here, the trail divides. Take the trail to the left,
up a washed out road. Stay on this trail to 42° 38.244N; 073
08.313W. On the left you should see a trail into the pines. Its
pretty well defined, just follow it bearing slightly uphill and to
the right. You will come to a steep uphill spot (20 feet or so).
This will intersect with a very obvious trail. Turn left here
towards: 42° 38.262N; 073° 08.441W Around this point you should see
a path up the hill on the right for maybe 20 feet or so, then turns
right. Take that trail north towards: 42° 38.504N; 073°08.382W. At
about this point there will be a deep wash. Don't cross it, take
the switchback. Follow it, towards: 42° 38.455N; 073° 08.492W. As
you’re getting near this point, the trail will turn to the right.
There will be a small stream bed (very small), maybe dry, that will
cross the trail. "DO NOT CROSS IT" This is where you will leave
this trail. The connector trail that you want to take is on the
right. Its very obvious and you will only be on it for about 30
feet or so when it will join another larger trail. Turn right on
this one. heading north towards: 42° 38.620N; 073° 08.448W. Right
about here you should be at a deep wash. There's no way out of this
one. Get right into the wash and pick your way up for about 50 feet
where you will return to the original trail. In a very short
distance you should be around 42° 38.667N; 073° 08.422W. This is
where it gets tough! Turn left up the hill. It will be about 250
intense yards. If its hot be sure and take water. The complete trip
will take anywhere from 65 to 85 minutes one way depending on the
individual. Don't try to climb the last cliff it isn't up there.
