This is a regular goecache located in the Bulldog Canyon Off-Highway Area. A permit (currently free) is required to drive into this area. There is no special theme for this cache, just an ammo can in the desert.
I hid this cache on a geocaching run with Darsantre in the area. I had the cache made up for a while, but my first choices of locations just didn’t work out. The cache name came when we were at the furthest point from a paved road. Every time I turned left while going down hill, I heard and felt a heavy metallic "thunk" in my Jeep's front end. I didn’t tell Darsante of my concern of front end failure this far from the road on a rapidly warming August day. We stopped to grab a few photos and I made a quick system check. I found the source of the noise was not the left front wheel getting ready to fall off, it was the ammo can under my seat falling forward and hitting the chair frame on downhill parts of the trail. I decided it was a message that today was the day to plant the cache.
The cache is not on top of the rock face, but there is some unstable footing to reach it.
Access at either south gate: N33* 28.049 / W111* 31.860 or
N33* 27.989 / W 111* 30.494.
Permit: The permit for this area is free. They are valid (and have gate codes) for six months. It took less than ten minutes to obtain at the Mesa Ranger District Office (5140 E. Ingram St., Mesa AZ).
