Jennestad Graphite #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden near one of the old graphite mines near Jennestad.

Jennestad has some of Norway's few mineable graphite deposits. There have been several enterprises mining the area, but all of them have ended up in financial trouble after a few years. The last bout of graphite mining at Jennestad ended in 1978.

The cache is hidden near the filled-in entrance to one of the old mining shafts. A bit of light climbing is required to go down to the cache, as the old entrance path is now flooded by water (you could try wading it, though).

It is hard getting a good GPS fix at the cache site, please leave your own coordinates in your log if they differ much from the posted ones.

There's an old shack nearby that was used by the miners. It contains large engine, possibly powering an electricity generator or a water pump. There's several signs in the area telling the stories about the previous activities in the area (in Norwegian only).

The nearby lake is a drinking water source. Please, don't bathe yourself (or your dog) there.
