Návrší Žurán nedaleko nekdejší
císarské silnice z Brna do Olomouce
je ve skutecnosti umele navršenou mohylou z období stehování
národu. Jde o jednu z nejznámejších a zároven historicky
nejcennejších lokalit slavkovského bojište,
Žurán byl na zacátku bitvy velitelským
stanovištem francouzské armády. V blízkém zájezdním hostinci
„Pindulka“ povecerel vecer pred bitvou
se svým doprovodem císar Napoleon I, který také nakrátko pozdeji
ulehl v provizorní chatrci u nedalekého kamenolomu.
V prubehu noci obdržel zprávu o taktickém zámeru spojencu pro
následující bitvu, kterí hodlali obklícit francouzskou armádu
z jihu, odríznout ji únikovou cestu k Vídni, odkud
ocekávala posily, a zatlacit ji smerem k Ceskomoravské
vrchovine. Obchvat Francouzu zprava mel pak v severní cásti
bojište provést sbor generálporucíka
Bagrationa. Na tento zámer spojencu
reagoval Napoleon geniálním protiúderem na stanovište hlavních sil
spojencu na Prateckém návrší. Uskutecnení tohoto manévru,
nazývaného“lví skok“, predcházelo ješte pred rozednením soustredení
silné úderné sestavy v mlhou skrytém údolí rícky
Roketnice mezi
Žurání a Prateckým návrším. Po osmé
ráno, když už vyšlo nad horizontem Prateckých výšin povestné
slavkovské slunce, le
soleil d’Austerlitz, a po
po poslední krátké porade se svým
štábem vydal Napoleon na Žurání
veliteli IV. Sboru maršálu Soultovi
povel k rozhodujícímu útoku na pozice spojencu. Úspešný útok
na Staré vinohrady a Pratecké návrší vytvoril predpoklad
k celkovému vítezství francouzské Velké armády ve slavkovské
bitve. V roce 1930 byl na Žuráni
jako pripomínka slavného vítezství za prítomnosti ceskoslovenské a
francouzské generality – jako výraz tehdejších úzkých
ceskoslovensko-francouzských vztahu – odhalen kamenný památník
s plastickou mapou znázornující postavení jednotlivých armád
pred rozhodujícím stretem.

Žurán Hill, not far
from the former imperial road between Brno – Olomouc, is actually
an artificially piled up tumulus from the era of the migration of
people, it is both one of the most famous and most historically
precious localities of the Slavkov Battlefield. Žurán was the
general headquarters of the French army at the beginning of the
battle. Emperor Napoleon I and his entourage dined at “Pindulka”, a
nearby inn, the night before the battle. Later, he rested in a
makeshift shanty not far from a quarry for a short time. During the
night, he received a message regarding the strategical plans of the
allied armies for the upcoming battle. They intended to besiege the
French army from the south, to cut its escape route to Vienna from
where it expected its reinforcements to come, and to drive it back
towards the Bohemian-Moravian Uplands (Ceskomoravská vrchovina).
The blockade of the French from the right-hand side was supposed to
be later undertaken Lieutenant General Bagration’s Column in the
northern part of the battlefield. Napoleon responded to the
strategy of the allied armies with a brilliant counterstroke
thought the middle of the battlefront to the headquarters of the
main forces of the allied armies on Pratecký Hill. This maneuver,
called a “Lion’s Leap“, was a preceded by the assembly of a strong
task force in the befogged Roketnice River Halley between Žuran and
Pratecké Heights in the hours before dawn. Shortly after 8 a.m.,
when the famous sun of Slavkov, le soleild’Austerlitz , was already
upon the horizon of Pratecké Heights(Pratecké výšiny), and after
the final short meeting with the headquarters start on Žurán,
Napoleon ordered the commander of the 4th Column, Marshal Soult, to
lunch the decisive attack against the allied armies’ positron. The
successful attack on Old Vineyards (Staré vinohrady) and Pratecký
Hill created the conditions for an overall victory for the Great
French Army in the Battle of Slavkov. In 1930, a stone monument of
with a plastic map showing the positions of the individual armies
before the decisive clash, as a reminder of the glorious victory,
was unveiled on Žurán in presence of Czechoslovakian and French
generals – as an expression of then close Czechoslovakian-French
relations.
