Geocache Description:

Sheepfold is situated to the north of Postbridge. This is a large and well-built shelter with substantial vertical stones incorporated within the outer walls to reinforce the horizontal layers of smaller stones. Inside the sheepfold, another row of vertical stones runs parallel to the external wall, which indicates the presence of an internal wall at some point in its history. In recent years, the sheepfold has undergone extensive repairs to its walls, to make good the damage caused by moorland animals.
Research indicates that the Sheepfold was built in the early 19th century by two brothers, John and Thomas Hullett. Its intended use was as a factory in order to extract starch from locally grown potatoes. However, this venture never really got off the ground, as the quality of the soil and the moorland climate were not conducive to this type of agriculture. It was later converted into a sheepfold by a Mr Crawford. As a sheepfold, it was used to collect sheep together for counting, marking and as a shelter for lambing. It is possible that part of the sheepfold was used as living quarters, there is remains of a dwelling house on the south wall.

There is a log in book and pencil. Please do not put anything in this cache except travel bugs.

The best way to Sheepfold
Park at Postbridge, take the marked footpath on the eastern side of the bridge the will take you around the edge of a field then along beside the river when you have passed through 2 small gates, take the path which goes up over to the right following your GPS.
