This cache is a standard ammo box hidden close to Penn Common.
A nurse I work with told me about this spot; apparently there is a burial site nearby known locally as "The Dead Knave's Grave". I couldn't find it, have never heard of it before, and can't find any reference to it on OS maps or online, but it's such a good name I don't really care! If anyone knows anything else about it, please send me a message.
You can park near the bottom of Red Lane off the A463 Gospel End Road, or at or near the Barley Mow pub situated at the end of Pennwood Lane. If you approach from Red Lane you will have to cross a shallow stream. There are plenty of stepping stones, but things might be a little more difficult after very wet weather. Other approaches involve crossing the golf course: please keep to the paths, and watch out for missiles! Whichever way you choose to get to this cache, there WILL be LOTS of mud, and some potentially slippery terrain. The tree cover (or is it the Dead Knave?) will probably make your GPS play some odd tricks, but I'm confident that the posted co-ordinates are accurate to within 5 metres.
