Geocache Description:

Placed this while at the big harmonica contest -- quite a site so far in the boonies to see a thousand people camped out and all tapping their toe to mountain music.

Small rubbermaid container hiding in another visible container placed by permission from a friend on their interesting property line. Room for small items; the Log is now a small roll in yet smaller container within to keep dry when the - thing - fills up with rain or snow. (sign small please) Access from street, do not bother her animals pleeeeease.

Access=========================>
! During fire season or spring runoff, roads can closed so check at Ranger stations in Cascade or McCall. Don't underestimate the mountains, carry good spare tire, water, food. Cell phones Don't work here.

history==============================>
The valley where Yellow Pine sits was a homestead belonging to Mr. Behne; my grandmother and her parents came through on the trail and camped here before there was a town when he was the only person for miles. Today about 40 people live here year-round. 5 miles further on, the road forks, left to Big Creek and right to Stibnite

Services/info=========================>
Yellow Pine has camping, food, RV parking, rooms, bar, general store, and the only pay phone for miles. There is no gas pump anymore. Big Creek Lodge (25 miles further) burned down and has no services. Warm Lake has food and lodging. During Harp Fest, lodging, RV spaces and USFS campgrounds are FULL, but lots of open camping is available below the town near the river on their golf course (yes, for real, with tournament and everything, but don't look for grass unless its Springtime in the Rockies.)

Events===========================>
Harmonica Contest 1st full weekend in August, when lots of food, crafts, fun etc happens. For details and lodging info go to www.harmonicacontest.com/

Five ways to drive to Yellow Pine==========>
1. Cascade toward Warm Lake to South Fork turnoff [which goes right past GCJPVJ]; paved NARROW twisty road except for the last 10 miles after you turn right on the East Fork = Lick Ck Road.

2. Cascade past Warm Lake up the canyon [past GCK3BH and GCGC1H] to Johnson Creek Road; wide oiled or gravelled dirt road all the way, may be washboardy; used by trucks. Some twisty, some straighter.

3. McCall past the golf course on Lick Creek road [right past GC56BC]. Dirt all the way, some narrow some wide; some twisty, some straighter; great views after Lick Cr Summit past the burn -- hanging valleys with water cascading; follows rivers except for the summit. (my favorite)

4. McCall on old Wagon Road past Burgdorf through Warren [see map for GCG9CF], over Warren Summit to South Fork, over Elk Summit to Big Creek and over Profile Summit [turn right near GCK8N4] to YP. THIS IS A LONG WAY on bumpy winding rough dirt.

5. Stanley or Lowman on 21 to the Stanley Landmark Road;turnoff near Banner Creek Campground [see map for GC8A89], through Bear Valley over Deadwood Summitt, through Penn Basin to cross the Warm Lake road onto the Landmark/Johnson Creek road. (Another LONG WAY on dirt; summit climb is rocky)
