Geocache Description:

A short walk out to Hawkcraig Point at Aberdour.

Well I never! This cache location was actually suggested by wee mans Dad and since he never usually expresses such a keen interest in geocaching, we had to humour him and come out here - if only to nurture this positive attitude towards caching!

Wee man decided that he was going to name the cache, and then decided that he wanted to own the cache too!

During the First World War Hawkcraig Point was used as a Royal Navy Base for developing and testing underwater acoustic detection equipment. These days, the red sea cliffs are popular with rock climbers, who can often be seen clambering over the crags.

Nearest parking is at the Silver Sands car park (signposted from the main road through Aberdour). Admission to the car park costs £1, however, I am not sure if there is always an attendant on duty.

Cache site can be accessed either by descending the steps at the north-east corner of the car park then turn right when you reach the bottom of the hill), or, for a more scenic route, take the path leading south from the car park which will take you out at the top of the cliffs, then follow the path in an easterly direction. If you chose to take the latter route, please be aware that at times you will be walking close to a cliff edge. Keep children near and you may also wish to keep dogs on leads for part of this walk.

Please also keep a close eye on children (and dogs) at the cache site - the terrain is uneven and rocky, and there are numerous small chasms and drops which could be lethal should anyone trip or fall here.

You will need to have reasonably flexible and longish arms to retrieve the cache! Please make sure that if you dislodge any of the stones at the front of the hiding place, that you replace them after putting the box back, as it can be seen from one side if these stones are not there! Thank you!

Cache contents at time of placing:
Wildflower seeds
Some sort of houseplant stick thing!
Pairs of wheels cards
Tin of Vaseline
Small Padlock
Bookmarks
Folding ruler
Pritt Stick

P.S. Hope the co-ords are OK as I got the “BATTERY LOW” signal when I was taking the waypoints here and I’d left my spare batteries back in the car!
