One of a short series of traditional caches
loosely themed on "The Planets Suite" by Gustav Holst. If you're
fed up with Multis, Micros and Puzzle caches then these are for
you. There's no trickery, treachery, questions or puzzles....
Boring!!!
The bringer of old age... and with it the inevetable... Death.
Yep... you've guessed it... a churchyard cache. The Church of St.
Peter and All Saints close to the village, if you can call half a
dozen cottages a village, of Battlesden doesn't have anything
particular in the way of architecture or history to stand it apart
from any other church in this part of Bedfordshire. What it does
have is its proximity to Battlesden Avenue, a lovely walk along a
ridge of higher ground just to the south west of Milton Bryan. This
cache is set about half way along the avenue.
The parking is a bit limited but I managed to dump my car on a
patch of gravel just to the left of the road outside the gates to
Battlesden House at
N51° 57.141' W000° 36.322'.
I hate searching for dates among endless rows of tombstones so
I'm not going to suggest you do that. Just take a look around the
church before (or after) you go looking for the cache. On the south
side, close to the small side door, you might just find a cross
marking the last resting place of one George Frederick
Hollingsworth who died December RS,
TUVW.
The cache is a 1 litre 'Lock & Lock' type box hidden just
off the public bridleway. Take the small gate to the right of the
entrance to Battlesden House and please don't be tempted to play
around with the keypad, photo sensors and other techno-wizardry
that you'll walk past. The owners really won't like it!!
Please
don't leave sharp, pointy things or items of food or drink in this
cache.
If you enjoyed this cache, or even if you
didn't, please consider logging on to GeocacheUK and giving
it a rating.
