Sugar Camp Hill Cache Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Parking coordinates are 46 36 740N and 091 36 913W.

We received permission from the DNR to place these caches on this beautiful Hiking and Snowshoe trail.

In 1870 the Bayfield Trail originally served as the first road between Superior and Bayfield. It was used to transport freight, mail, and passengers between the two cities until it was replaced by the railroad in 1885. About half mile from the parking lot, you will be led to the old Percival Mine. Stay outside the fence for your safety. In 1873 a copper vein was reported to have been found only 15 feet down. Exploration continued until 1874 when prospecting seemed to fail. The shaft at one time reached a depth of 90 feet.

We placed this multi-cache here because we love the area. It serves as a beautiful snowshoe trail in the winter and also as a great hiking trail the rest of the year. It is approximately 2.25 miles in length and takes approximately 1 ½ hrs depending on what your pace is to complete it. Almost a third of the trail is going uphill. When you reach the 2nd cache, you are on Sugar Camp Hill which is about 300 feet higher than the parking area. Please check out the fantastic view that’s offered to the north while at the 2nd cache. On your way to the final cache, you may see the Clevedon Fire Tower off to the right… please do not climb the ladder, it’s not only illegal, but unsafe.

To help find your way, just follow the blue diamonds that the DNR painted on trees throughout the trail. If you stay on the trail you should have no trouble in finding the locations of all three caches. This trail loops around and will end up right back at the parking area. No need to do any bushwhacking.

Special note: Hunters also use this trail, it’s used as more of an access to their own sites rather than as a regular hunting area, but please be cautious anyway and wear the appropriate clothing during the hunting seasons.

***The 1st cache is a “Micro” cache… it’s a small pill vile that only has enough room in it for the coordinates to the 2nd cache. The 2nd cache is a small Rubbermaid type container that has the coordinates to the 3rd and final cache. The final cache is an ammo can that has many different items including a TB from California.

We know that this description may be long, but one more point: If you choose to use the hints listed below...they pretty much tell you where the caches are.
