This multi will take you to a photo of Slinger's depot, and then
for a short walk on the Ice Age Trail that goes through Slinger.
Slinger was once known as "Seven Hills" a fact related to the hilly
terminal morraine terrain of the area, so you will walk up a gentle
hill to find the cache.
At the coordinates above, is the historic Slinger Depot, which is
now a private business, owned by EH Wolf, a petrochemical company.
Originally, this was a multicache that required you to take a look
at the historic depot from the street, but now all you have to do
is look at this photo to get the info for the multi.
The fine folks at EH Wolf do not want you to look at their
building for security reasons, so instead of asking you to drive by
the building to get the street address, I will give you the street
address so that you can finish the multi. It is 414. Please note
that there is no need to go anywhere near the depot as the current
owners have concerns about security.
The depot structure is a simple wooden building, typical
of small town depots, and remains of architectual interest.
The Yellowstone Trail often followed the general route of the
railroad, so for most of the length of the Yellowstone Trail across
Wisconsin, you will see tracks running along side the road. Here,
the trail follows the route of the old LaCrosse Railroad (later the
Milwaukee & St. Paul Road). The railroad reached Slinger on
August 23, 1855.
To find the final cache add the street address of the depot to
these coordinates, to get the location of the cache:
43.19.293 (add the street address)
88.17.398 (add the street address)
Best parking for the final cache is:
43.19.516
88.17.957
