Geocache Description:

Welcome to the wild southwest edge of Kincaid Park... a deserted beach fringing the foot of forested sand dunes, beyond the Coastal Trail.

This cache is an easy half-mile hike west along the top of the dunes from Serenity View cache (with Cook's Nook found along the way). The path is an unimproved running trail; mostly sand, with very steep drop-offs along its southern edge. Watch children closely on this approach!

An alternate route is to hike down the paved Coastal Trail from Kincaid Chalet, turning off towards the south-southwest at N61 09.316 W150 04.197 on an undeveloped (but obvious) footpath leading to a wide ski trail, where you continue southwards towards another undeveloped but obvious footpath leading off into the willow thickets. This path brings you within 30 feet of the cache.

A delightful 2-mile hike leaves the parking area by the Biathalon Range, heads to Serenity Bench, turns west and cruises along the crest of the dunes (dipping at times down along the face - follow the most obvious trail), and continues right down the dune to the cache location. Stupendous views in all directions - the Chugach Mountains, Turnagain Arm, the Kenai Mountains, the Alaska Range, Fire Island, Mt. Susitna, Foraker and Denali are all visible from the crest of this trail. Continue out to the Coastal Trail connection described above and return to the Chalet to complete the two mile loop, or descend to the beach zone for a completely different experience at Kincaid Park.

Be aware of your surroundings to avoid conflict with the healthy population of moose here. Please respect the park's wild nature by only using existing trails (no random bushwhacking until you're within 30' of the cache!) DO NOT WALK OUT ON THE MUDFLAT! This is a very dangerous kind of mud - it 'liquifies' and grips feet/legs very quickly and firmly, beyond your ability to 'self-rescue' before the tide returns...
