Elephant Butte Lake State Park is five miles north of Truth or Consequences. It can be reached via I-25 exit 83. The area known as Dirt Dam is accessible from the park’s main entrance. Admission to all areas of the park is $5.00 per day per vehicle. You can also purchase an annual day use pass for $40.00.
Park at N33 10.295 W107 12.193. Park personnel request that you do not drive beyond this point. The dirt roads leading to the parking area are accessible by 2W drive vehicles but always be aware that winds can cause shifting sands and create soft areas on the roads.
It’s a short easy walk to the cache. Besides the usual log book and pencil the cache was started with a finger nail clipper, fridge magnet, blinking safety necklace for a kid for Halloween and a pair of dice.
