Geocache Description:

This cache is on the scenic trails of Gunpowder Falls State Park - between Harford and Belair Roads. Allow some time for the hike which is more than 1 mile on a on a well maintained trail that follows the Gunpowder River. Cache is a medium sized Glad Container.

This cache is the 1st of 7 being placed by GSTroopers - aka Cadette/Senior Troop 173 from Fork/Kingsville. We are earning our "Not Just Another Treasure Hunt" IPA/Badge. We chose this spot because we can hike in from our home to check on the cache and do maintenance. Parking is available at Belair Road (Rt 1) about 5.4 miles north of I-695 (the Beltway). Your hike will parallel the NORTH side of the Gunpowder River then turn north along the Sweathouse Branch Stream, providing views of great blue heron and beaver habitat. After finding this cache continue across the Sweathouse Branch Stream for a short distance to Long Green Run our favorite swimming hole with a wonderful rock formation. The trail on the other side of the Swimming Hole leads up the hill to Camp Cone. Other possible approaches to this cache include Harford Road and the Gunpowder and via Camp Cone. To hike in from Harford Road and the Gunpowder you will need to cross the river which is only possible when the water is very low and you are either a good rock jumper or willing to get your feet wet. Camp Cone, which also requires crossing Long Green Run, does not have parking unless you are there with a youth group. Good Luck and Enjoy the Hike!
THIS CACHE HAS BEEN PARK APPROVED!
Exciting Announcement!!! As we were listing this cache, the Girl Scout National Convention was being held in Atlanta, Georgia. At the convention they released a new IPA (badge for Cadettes and Seniors) "High-Tech Hide & Seek"! We were working on a council IPA from Michigan, now we can go for the biggie from National! For details on the NEW IPA see – (visit link)
