Geocache Description:

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has grown to over three hundred thirty caches hidden in thirty-three Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to sixteen cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 700 cacher teams have logged over 8,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #360

"Five Corners"

Welcome to Five Corners Cemetery located in Allen Township in Northern Miami County. This little out of the way cemetery is located a few miles southwest of the thriving metropolis of Macy, just off Business U.S. 31. Five Corners Cemetery was established around 1856 and is one of the oldest in Miami County. There is even believed to be a grave of an unidentified Native American that has an iron marker in the shape of an Indian's head and a stone with a number on it which I have not been able to locate. Five Corners is still an active cemetery with a few very recent burials.

Here is a photograph of the headstone of Charles Williams a Civil War veteran who served in Company K. of the 138 Indiana Infantry. The 138th Regiment was organized at Indianapolis, Ind., and mustered in May 27, 1864. They then were ordered to Tennessee and assigned to Railroad Guard duty in Tennessee and Alabama, Dept. of the Cumberland, to September. They were mustered out September 22, 1864. During their short time in action they only lost 8 due to disease.

This is a photo of one of the oldest readable headstones located in the cemetery. Charles Bryant died October 4, 1855 at the age of 75 years.
