Geocache Description:

Along path by old waterway. Cattle sometimes roam along the path. Boots recommended. The path can get muddy when wet. [Aug 2008: It appears that the cattle are no longer around, however this has allowed the nettles to grow in late summer so we recommend you wear long trousers.]

The route follows a path along Car Dyke, a Roman waterway built to carry food and supplies for the advancing Roman armies in the North. The main cargoes being corn, wool for uniforms, leather for tents and shields, and salted meat. The engineering work runs some 122km from waterbech near Cambridge to Lincoln.

Parking available at N52 36.930 W 0 14.850 (changed from previous suggested location N52 37.397 W 0 15.906, due to one Geocacher unfortunately having had their car broken into 2006-02-26). The Barn Garden Centre nearby have kindly agreed to allow the odd geocacher to use their car park. You may indeed wish to also visit the garden centre. They also sell chocolate bars, canned drinks and ice-creams in summer. Please however beware that THE GATE IS LOCKED AT CLOSING TIME. Current closing time is Mon-Sat 17:30, Sun 16:30, however do check.

From here go over the style (step currently missing), and proceed along the garden centre side of the waterway.

The waterway is also known for Kingfishers.
